How to read this history

Documented history A claim supported by a named historical source, archive, government record or academic study. The source and its limits should be stated.

Recorded tradition A story recorded by a historian or gazetteer as what a tribe or community says about its own origin. It proves that the story was being told or recorded; it does not automatically prove every event in the story.

Family oral tradition A story passed down by this particular family. It should include who told it, when, and whether another elder or document confirms it.

A family tree is a separate kind of evidence from a tribe's broad origin story. A connection between the Kassar community and the Timurid or Mughal world does not, by itself, prove that every present-day Kassar family descends in a documented father-to-son line from Timur or Babur.
