Dhani and Chakwal: regional history
Government-published regional history The official Chakwal district history page says that, according to the District Gazetteer Jhelum 1904, Chakwal was named after Chaudhry Chaku Khan, who founded the settlement in 1525. The same page says Chakwal became a tehsil headquarters in 1881 and a district in 1985. It places Chakwal in the Dhani region of the Potohar plateau and notes the area's much older Soan Valley archaeological context.
Academic and specialist references Dhani is also the name of a Punjabi dialect studied in a 2022 University of Management and Technology research thesis, based on fieldwork with speakers in Chakwal tehsils and nearby parts of the Rawalpindi Division. The Dhanni cattle breed is documented as a local Punjab draft breed, with populations described in Attock, Rawalpindi and Jhelum districts. The breed's name is a regional cultural association, not evidence of a particular family's ancestry.

The official district page attributes the 1525 founding account to the 1904 gazetteer. It is best presented as the district's recorded historical account, not as an archaeological proof of the exact founding day or the ancestry of every resident.
Family oral tradition The family's specific village, branch name, settlement date and story of arrival in Dhani still need confirmation from elders or family documents.
